Purpose:
To estimate the prevalence of comorbid conditions and quality of life in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Materials and Methods:
134 patients with COPD (mean age 64.0±10.2 years) were included in this study. All the patients underwent laboratory and instrumental investigations. Also patients examined with Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and AQ 20 Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQ 20).
Results:
The arterial hypertension was detected in 36.5% of cases (49 patients). Abdominal obesity was revealed in 2.9% of cases (4 patients). History of coronary artery disease was revealed in 9.7% of cases (13 patients). Lower extremity peripheral arterial disease was detected in 2.2% of cases (3 patients). Diabetes was detected in 2.2% of cases (3 patients). Depression was detected in 52.2% of cases (70 patients). There were significant correlations between AQ 20 score and number of comorbid conditions (r=0.62; p=0.01).
Conclusions:
Our study confirmed high prevalence of comorbid conditions in COPD patients. Physicians should detect and treat these conditions to prevent complications and increase quality of life.
